If or when the electrical grid goes down due to our own incompetence, solar activity, foreign cyber attack, or terrorist attack, how will you get power. I have a gasoline powered generator, but if the grid is down for an extended period gas stations won’t be able to pump gas. The pumps require electricity. The idea of generating power without depending upon a corporation or government appeals to me. I don’t understand anything about solar power generation. But, according to this article costs are plunging and the Feds are handing out gobs of dough for going green.

I think Yojimbo installed solar panels a while ago. Does it make sense to install solar panels and make yourself self-sufficient at this point in time? If I could put in a system for $10,000 that would enable me to live off the grid, I think it would be a good investment.
