Bitcoin is out there. Being out there, Bitcoin is also divisive. When people first hear of it, their first impression is either one of repulsion or excitement. Questions gravitate around the “varying shades of legality” – as one BBC commentator put it – and the likelihood of government and big business undermining this Grand Experiment of virtual proportions.
That it’s origins are unknown tickle both parties appropriately. One thing that grows apparent when discussing Bitcoin with someone for the first time is an intense loyalty to an idea of reality as static. Being static, society, to put it simply, will never change.
