10 Things To Do When A Stranger Knocks On Your Door

by Ken Jorgustin, Modern Survival Blog:

Here are a few ideas how to handle a situation when someone (a stranger) is knocking on your door.

It happens to all of us, sometimes somewhat regularly depending on your neighborhood. That is, we hear an unexpected knock on our front door.

The question is, what should we do?

Open the door
NOT the best idea (without doing other things first)… Some people blindly open the door to see who it is or what it is that they want. Obviously if you know/trust the person on the other side, that’s a different situation.

Look out a window first to see who is knocking
Avoid looking out a door window, but instead look through a different window away from the door if possible (they won’t see you that way). If you don’t recognize them, you could ask through the door what they want, or you could choose to ignore them altogether. The thing is, it’s best to look first, before opening the door.

You would be amazed how many strangers can knock on your door and just expect you to open up. I have even been told things like, “you need to open this door right now, I have to talk to you.” and banged on the door really hard like he was trying to break it down. to which I replied, “I have a loaded gun and you aren’t coming in my apartment”.

It was some pissed off neighbor at my old apartment building whose car had been vandalized and because I had a window that overlooked the parking lot he was determined that I was going to tell him who had done it, even though I had no idea. I don’t spend my time staring at the parking lot. I stare at a computer screen a lot but the parking lot, um no. That is why I have guns, I don’t live in fear because I have guns. I don’t have to because I can shoot somebody who breaks in my house.

Although Missouri has passed laws that if someone threatens you anywhere on your property or tries to jack your car, it is a righteous shoot if you kill them. Sometimes it is good to live in a redneck state that doesn’t think you have to live in fear or get beaten, raped or killed without preventing it.

In fact, a friend of my brothers was driving in Springfield, Mo. and someone opened up the back of his work van and hopped inside. John turned around with a gun in his hand and said, “you just got in the wrong van” and the guy said, “yes, I did” and got right back out. John would have been legally justified to shoot the guy but he didn’t want to have to do it.
