Checking Your Handguns for Feeding Problems: Round Nose Versus Hollow Points

God Bless The Republic. Down with Tyrants. We Will Prevail! – James Wesley Rawles

by Z.T., Survival Blog:

To any avid gun collector, this may seem to be old news. For those of you that this isn’t old news, it may save your life. You should take great care in your personal protection firearm and the ammunition you have loaded in it.

If you are like me, shooting your firearms is a hobby that has had to take a back seat because of today’s economy and political climate. For many years, it was nothing to go out and shoot a thousand rounds of ammunition for fun. It wasn’t even that long ago! I remember back in around 2006-2007, I could go to Wal-Mart and buy all the .45 ACP ammo I wanted  for $12 a box of 50 rounds. But today is a different day. You can scarcely find .45 ammo. And if you can, you are limited to 1 box a day and you will pay $26 for it. Period. And that will be for cheap ammo.

But, to the point, I am not even talking about shooting cheap ammunition.

This is a good basic article, but…

“In either case, you should always shoot until the mag is empty.”

Two things: 1) what if after you have shot the magazine empty, a 2nd or 3rd assailant appears and their guns are NOT empty? 2) if your target is down, do you just keep on shooting the body? Most jurisdictions would find that… objectionable. In fact, it could get you tossed into jail for a LONG time for use of excessive force.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought his comment on emptying the magazine to be absurd. It really sheds light on the term stopping power.

I agree……that statement in the article made me stop also. Emptying my entire 1911 into the poor scoundrel is such as waste of absolutely fine and useful ammo. At $1 a pop, the SOB is a $1 dead man… why spend $11 bucks on the loser? Like Ed said, this dead scoundrel may have some zombie buddies around the corner.

But a good article……I actually had not thought about the potential jamming issues of the hollow point……glad I have a ton of ball.

        Kaaaaaa-Kaaaaaa!, saith the Krow

My favorite man stoppers are .45 ACP and .357 Magnum, I have 2 of each….along with many others locked away with some silver and lead.
