GAO Now Investigating DHS Ammo Purchases

by Elizabeth Flock, US News:

The Government Accountability Office tells Whispers it is now investigating large ammunition purchases made by the Department of Homeland Security. Chuck Young, a spokesman for GAO, says the investigation of the purchases is “just getting underway.”

The congressional investigative agency is jumping into the fray just as legislation was introduced in both the Senate and the House to restrict the purchase of ammo by some government agencies (except the Department of Defense). The AMMO Act, introduced Friday, would prevent agencies from buying more ammunition if “stockpiles” are greater than what they were in previous administrations.

Donelle Harder, a spokeswoman for Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., who introduced the legislation in the Senate, tells Whispers the bill would also require GAO to share the findings of its report on DHS purchases with Congress.

Read the gun control cartoons in the bottom rail of the article if you want to see the editorial opinion of this Mort Zuckerman rag.

Well, it is about frakking time that someone investigated the sham that is being perpetrated on the American gun owners these days. Ammo prices are up 200-400% since about 6 months ago. On top of that, it is VERY difficult to find any ammo these days in the usual sporting goods and warehouse type stores. Our local WalMart is illustrative. They have an ammo case that will easily hold 5,000-6,000 rounds of ammo in various calibers. The last 5 times I have been in there to check, at only one time did they have any AK or .22 ammo for sale. Even then, they restricted buyers to only 3 boxes per day each. Fortunately, I had my wife along with me, so we each bought 3 boxes. Still, this is a pittance compared to what WalMart and other big retailers used to carry.

Yes, I get it that the US Gov has bought a couple of billion rounds of ammo… but NOT in either .22LR or AK-47 calibers. These are made by both US and foreign manufacturers in the billions of rounds annually. So… Where TF is it? It sure as hell is not for sale these days. A rifle without ammo is nothing but a fancy club. What we have here, friends, is nothing but defacto gun control via the US Gov screwing up the ammo and ammo component supplies.

Hopefully, the investigation mentioned in this article will discover WTF is going on here and then will prompt the congress to get off their fat behinds and actually DO something to fix it. Those who orchestrated this should be found out, fired from their current positions, and then all possible legal actions must be taken against them, no matter who they are. This kind of behavior absolutely must be discouraged whenever it rears its ugly head.
