Gold, Guns and a Hunker-Down plan. Need I say more?

“Understand this you don’t gain experience from your laptop. Many of the so called experts in the field are replacing employment that they no longer have and are suddenly experts in weathering something that they’ve never seen off of their laptop screen. Some of them you’ve picked as your expert. In living and understanding this experience… I’ve been shot twice… how many times have you experienced the same. Not even involved with the situation and two holes to my experience. I’ve lived through two revolutions Argentina being the most recent in 2000. Eight months I was there and you can’t even imagine if you haven’t been through it. If you haven’t lived it you can’t experience it till you do. None of it makes me any better, smarter or anything other than more experienced. Think about what I’ve just said… and you’ll discover two things. One it makes perfect sense and two we’re trying to help you understand this as it’s unlike anything you’ve experienced before and it’s comming to a nation near you real soon. Are you ready?”

Once. After that, I was smart enough to avoid a repeat. ;-)

Agree that few of us have experienced a true SHTF experience. The thing is, though, that many of us are AWARE of such difficulties and are doing what we can to mitigate such a potential situation. Will that be sufficient? Perhaps. We won’t know for sure until we are in it. What we do know is that we will have a MUCH better chance of coming through such situations than those who are are not only not planning but who are totally oblivious to the possibility.

I’ve spent 3 years preparing with a vengeance. I think I will look back with a chuckle at the things I forgot/should have done. I do know I have the basics down and can survive. I’ve shot and been shot at in the Army. I know fear and how to overcome it. I have food, lots. I have seed and tools. I have water in a well with a hand pump if need be. Defensive tools…. CHECK. I’ve not been shot, but I have a medic kit and training just in case. If it falls, I’m ready, if it doesn’t, I plan on living as independently as possible and as naturally as possible. I see it as a win/win.

Gold stocks don’t really interest me because they are paper and how are you going to enforce ownership after society collapses? Those mines will be nationalized by whatever government happens to have them in their geographic jurisdiction of continuing power. It may be a warlord or it may be the remnants of a government.

Ann Barnhardt is right, if you can’t stand in front of it and protect it with a gun then you DON’T OWN IT when it collapses.

The Tuna I buy was sitting at $1.38 for years. Last year it jumped to $1.42, then $1.46, then $1.58…It is now $1.82! In 2011 I bought around 700 cans at $1.38 each…so I’m still eating $1.38 Tuna. Tuna is a good prep food. I always have 500 or more cans on hand. Right now I have around 800 cans. Most of the food I buy has gone up in the last two years…some just a little, some ALOT!

Beware the mercury T. But having said that, I’d risk a little mercury in my tuna over starvation any day!

Agreed. As a chemist, I am WELL aware of the presence of mercury in tuna and other predatory ocean-going fish but am also aware that mercury is natural on the Earth and that there are many sources of it. We evolved on a planet with numerous toxic and radioactive compounds. Yes, we need to minimize our exposure to them when possible but we also need not to get hysterical about them. Many of these things are present in low ppb levels. I am reminded of Nietzsche… “that which does not kill us makes us stronger”.

I would rather die that have 800 cans of tuna. :) Being an old daytrader before swithching to stack builder I have to say that I am leary of these guys and their Junior picks. I have been burnt on a few Junior calls…one that comes to mind is a stock that was being pumped by Sprott called Wesdome Resources.
