House Gun Task Force Chair: ‘I’m not interested in giving up my firearms – and I’m not going to ask other law abiding Americans to give up theirs.’

by Penny Starr, CNS News:

The chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force – a group of Democrats who support President Barak Obama’s sweeping gun control plan – began a meeting on Wednesday by saying he wants to keep his guns and wants other “law-abiding Americans’ to do the same.

“I just want to let everyone know from the beginning, I’m a hunter, I’m a gun owner and I believe that law-abiding citizens have a Second Amendment right to own firearms,” Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) said in his opening remarks.

I’m not interested in giving up my firearms, my guns, and I’m not going to ask other law abiding Americans to give up theirs,” Thompson said.

He went on cite the 2007 Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, which upheld the Second Amendment right of citizens to bear arms for self-defense.

I get the feeling this guy won’t be chairman for much longer, if Obama has his way.

If I were Thompson, I would stay out of parks and make sure there are people around him all the time. Obama will dismiss this guy or find a scandal to stick him with eh?

I guess he figures he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Either he faces the wrath of his gun-owning constituents, or he faces the wrath of Chairman Obama. It’s clear that he feels he can get a better shot (no pun intended) going against Obama.
