I hate that it was LOCKED and UNLOADED… It’s great that the burglar saw the barrel and took off, but what if he hadn’t? The poor college students would have been SCREWED, even though they were “armed”. Because they were still “partially disarmed” due to the rules of “safe storage”. His rifle should have been LOADED and it should have been more readily accessible, he should not have had to “unlock it”.
What if the bad guy had been 5 seconds faster? He would have entered the room to find the kid in the process of unlocking a gun. He could have then taken the victim’s gun by force, since HIS gun was already “in play”.
I agree. You should always have your gun chambered and by your side when you’re sleeping and readily accessible when you are home. Only when you leave home should you lock it in a good safe. It’s sad that the journalist had to clarify the point that “at this point the police say his gun was legally used”…Hell yeah it was legally used! When wouldn’t it be legally used if burglars break into your home with guns and you are defending yourself!

Right.It’s illegal whenever the bankster/government of United States corporation decides it to be illegal for citizen/slaves who have no rights.On the other hand it is never UNLAWFULL for men and women to protect themselfs.
