NEW DELHI: India’s leading trade body, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has urged the central government to
speed up Free Trade Agreement with the European Union for better market access in products including gems and jewellery.According to ASSOCHAM president, Rajkumar Dhoot, an FTA with Europena Union will provide Exports of merchandise to get a boost in terms of getting improved market access in products like textiles, engineering, gems and jewellery.
At the present scenarion, exports face headwinds from the western economies, particularly in debt-ridden Europe, India’s trade deficit may increase sharply by over 40 percent to USD 262 billion in the current fiscal, he said.
